Clearing Your Mind for Success

“Writing is often an act of clearing your mind, not adding more things to it.” —Azul Terronez

November is NaNoWriMo, which is National Novel Writing Month. You can join thousands of other writers all over the world to write 50,000 words in one month. Are you ready to take on the challenge of writing a book in thirty days?

On this week’s episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I talk about the benefits of joining NaNoWriMo and share my top tips for getting ready for this challenge.

Clear Your Mind

Writing is often an act of clearing your mind, not adding more things to it. Let go of any preconceived notions of what writing should be and focus solely on putting words on the page.

How Fast Can You Type?

Determine how many words you can write in a specific amount of time, such as two minutes. This will help you calculate your writing pace and set realistic goals for completing your book. Whether you write longhand or type into a computer, try to figure out how fast you can write without your editor’s brain. This will help you set aside time each day for writing.

Commit

Get resolved: Make a commitment to write every day, even if it’s just a few extra words. Aim to exceed your daily word goal to build up a buffer in case life throws you a curveball.

Joining a large community such as NaNoWriMo can provide the support and motivation needed to complete your book in a short period of time. A lot of us authors, even after writing several books, still need some sort of support and motivation.

In this podcast, I also share:

  • Meditation can help clear your mind for writing.
  • Ignore your inner editor; concentrate on getting words on the page first. Edit later.
  • Most authors don’t like the act of writing: we love having written.
  • You can also join our community here at Authors Who Lead for support, inspiration, and motivation.

I’m so grateful that you listened to this podcast. I appreciate anybody who leaves a review; it really helps inspire us to keep contributing and giving content here.

What was your biggest takeaway from this episode? Are you going to join NaNoWriMo? In the comments, let me know.

That’s all for this week. If you have a message inside you that needs to be written, know that you can write and publish the book that’s been on your heart.

Don’t delay – get out of your head, put words on the page today, and make a movement with your message!
