Crafting Your Message
“In part to process what had happened to me . . . I gave myself permission to take the time to explore exactly what that was and how I wanted to say it. I have a lot more to say than just the story of being a survivor.” —Suzi Hunn
Suzi Hunn only found her love for being an entrepreneur after her entire savings from her job as an educator was stolen. Through her journey of healing afterward and the process of writing her book, she realized her own worth and her true mission to help people bring together their own worlds of mission and money.
In this episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I talk to Suzi about her book-writing journey and how it helped clarify the message she shares with others.
When Suzi talks to us in this podcast about wealth, she’s not just talking about money. She says, “I’m not just referring to money. I believe it’s a greater issue than that. Our wealth is our time. Our wealth is our talent. Our wealth is our energy. And our wealth is our money.” Even as creatives and educators, we deserve to have access to wealth.
Many of us today, and women especially, aren’t taught how to earn and keep money. The system gives us the message that earning wealth is hard and only attainable through others’ help. As Suzi says, she was taught that earning money is “complicated.” This led her to trust, like many of us, an “expert” to handle her money. In her case, that person ended up stealing all of her savings.
In this podcast, Suzi also shares with us:
- We need to be aware of when we are allowing micro versions of our wealth to be taken in small ways every day.
- We live in a racist, misogynistic system that actively teaches false and unfair conceptions about wealth.
- We need to take ownership of our wealth and find our wealth allies.
- When you write a book, focus on the message and finish the book before you think about how you are going to publish it.
