How Embracing Your Power Can Transform Your Writing Journey
“We set the tone for how we want to be treated. We set the standard for what we want in our life and how we let other people talk to us. But that starts with how we talk to ourselves.” —Vasavi Kumar
Vasavi Kumar’s first book proposal was rejected, but then during an Instagram Live, the same agent that turned her down contacted her about writing a different book. Through her new book, Vasavi shares what she’s learned since she was first diagnosed with a mental illness at age nineteen and how to succeed using the power of your voice.
In this episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I talk to author and speaker Vasavi Kumar about her journey writing her book, “Say It Out Loud: Using the Power of Your Voice to Listen to Your Deepest Thoughts and Courageously Pursue Your Dreams.”
Healing Writing
During the writing of her book, Vasavi ended up having trouble with her sacrum. She had previously dealt with her emotional issues by talking to herself out loud, so she did the same with the pain and physical therapy she went to for her sacrum.
Power Leakage
Vasavi also describes power leakage and tells us several ways it can manifest in our lives. Think of the junk drawer you have at home. Every time you walk past it, you are reminded you need to clear it out. This drains energy from you each time. She tells us that this “energy leakage is something you have to consciously decide” what to do about.
Through her own journey and insights, Vasavi encourages authenticity, emotional expression, and self-publishing as powerful tools for personal and professional growth.
In this podcast, Vasavi also shares with us:
- That authors should consider self-publishing, especially utilizing Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
- The importance of expressing a full range of emotions and challenging societal expectations.
- How transformative a great editor can be.
- Why an author should consider the reader’s experience when they write.
