What Is Artificial Intelligence?
“So you can use it to expand your writing by not spending so much time researching and getting lost on the internet.” — Azul Terronez
The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for a long time, but what does it matter to writers and what can we do about it? A.I. is starting to revolutionize the way people think about creating any work like writing books or even designing book covers. This new tech brings out fears, concerns, and controversy among creatives, educators, and anyone whose lives may be affected.
On this week’s episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I talk about using artificial intelligence as an author and give an overview of what ChatGPT is and how you can use it.
What Is A.I.?
A.I. stands for artificial intelligence, and in most households, it is part of our everyday lives. Our smartphones have an A.I. that helps us to be hands-free while we’re driving or doing other manual tasks. We also may have A.I. systems that allow us to monitor our homes and cars and in some cases adjust other tech attached, such as remote starting a car or being able to turn off house lights from the other side of the country.
ChatGPT
“The new, amazing technology called ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and respond to any questions and statements just like a human, and it can understand and generate human language so that you can have a conversation with it. And it’s like talking to a very smart robot.” This is the explanation that ChatGPT gave me when I asked it to explain what it is as if I were a fifth grader.
If you try out this technology—and I encourage you to do so—you will find that it can indeed write intelligently. But, I don’t believe we should be afraid of this new technology replacing us or our work. We are creative beings and we have curiosity, intuition, and feelings that AI doesn’t. AI can imitate us in many ways, but our uniqueness and humanness will always be innate inside of us and set us apart from the machines.
In this podcast, I also share:
- Why schools are banning new A.I. technology
- The many ways to use ChatGPT as an author
- The limitations of ChatGPT
- How thought leaders can use A.I. technology
- Why A.I. technology can never replace humans
- How our “Authors Who Lead” community can help support you to write your book
I’m so grateful that you listened to this podcast. I appreciate anybody who leaves a review; it really helps inspire us to keep contributing and giving content here.
What was your biggest takeaway from this episode? Have you tried ChatGPT? Does AI for authors excite you or cause you fear? In the comments, share your biggest fear.
That’s all for this week. If you have a message inside you that needs to be written, know that you can write and publish the book that’s been on your heart. Don’t delay—get out of your head, put words on the page today, and make a movement with your message!
