228: Building Your Author Business with Azul Terronez

How to Make Revenue Beyond Book Sales

“The more you think about your book in multiple avenues, the more revenue you can have come in.” — Azul Terronez

Have you been thinking about writing a book, but wondered if it was worth the time and effort, or if there was any money that would be made from writing a book? Have you thought about what it takes to become an author who’s successful, not just in selling books, but also in building a business? Then, this episode is for you.

On this week’s episode of “Authors Who Lead,” I talk about how authors can build their businesses around their books, and the lessons I’ve learned along my entrepreneurial journey of writing my book, “The Art of Apprenticeship: How to Hack Your Way into Any Industry, Land a Kick-Ass Mentor, and Make A Killing Doing What You Love.”

More Than One Product

Most authors don’t make a living with their book’s royalties, but having a published book can open up opportunities to create that full-time income they desire. As an author entrepreneur, our books can become multiple products. Not only can we sell paperback, hardback, ebook, and audible editions of the book, we can create courses and webinars around our book’s message. Writing a book will also give you opportunities to be a guest on podcasts, blogs, and other social media.

Mentors and Communities

I wrote my first book in order to have a business idea to present to people whom I wanted as my mentors. I got their attention because they were impressed that I could write a book in thirty days. I am still friends today with these mentors. Having someone else to learn from is invaluable. Why reinvent the wheel when you can find other like-minded people to learn from what works and what doesn’t?

This value of having mentors and peers walking a journey similar to yours is why community is so important. This is the reason we started our “Authors Who Lead” community, where authors at all levels of authorship can learn from one another along their entrepreneurial journey. If you’re interested in learning about the benefits of our community, you can find them here.

In this podcast, I also share:

  • Ideas for giveaways
  • The importance of getting emails of readers
  • Why even more important than creating a vision board, is taking action on it
  • How writing a book can give you credibility
  • That your book doesn’t have to be lengthy to make an impact
  • Ideas to utilize your ebooks to get reviews and more readers
  • Other ideas to monetize your book

I want to encourage and inspire you to really make an impact in the world by writing a book.

I’m so grateful that you listened to this podcast. I appreciate anybody who leaves a review; it really helps inspire us to keep contributing and giving content here.

What was your biggest takeaway from this episode? Are you an author trying to make a full-time income? In the comments, share the biggest challenge in your author business.

That’s all for this week. If you have a message inside you that needs to be written, know that you can write and publish the book that’s been on your heart. Don’t delayget out of your head, put words on the page today, and make a movement with your message!
